The Prestige Edition
Leather that grows
more beautiful with time
A genuine leather backgammon is not a game board. It is an object you touch every day, one that settles into the hand and develops a patina of its own. We work exclusively with full grain cowhide, the top layer of the skin, left intact, the only one with the right to mature rather than wear out.
Every Prestige Edition is cut, folded and stitched by hand, made entirely to order once you place it. No two pieces are alike, and that is precisely the point.
Genuine leather
Three things you feel
Full grain cowhide
We use only the top layer of the hide, neither sanded nor corrected. It keeps its natural grain, breathes, and gains a warm, luminous depth over the years. A leather that matures rather than ages.
Leather all the way through
The inside of the board is leather, just as the outside is. No compromise on the lining: the hand meets the same material everywhere, and play happens on a surface that lives and takes on its own patina.
Hand stitched
Edges are turned by hand and stitched with waxed thread in the saddle stitch, following the craft of fine leather goods. It takes time. It is what gives the piece its structure, its density, and its longevity.
The making
Eight weeks for one board
Nothing is made in advance. Your piece begins the day you order it, and passes through some twenty stages in the hands of our craftsmen.
Each hide is inspected one by one. Only those even in grain and dye uptake enter the workshop.
Cutting is done by hand, following the natural direction of the fibres, so the leather holds its shape over time.
Outer leather, inner leather and reinforcement are built up layer by layer, then turned and shaped.
Saddle stitch in waxed thread, edges sanded, burnished and polished. Then the final inspection, piece by piece.

Care
How to keep it
a hundred years
- Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Never clean with water.
- Feed the leather twice a year with a colourless balm.
- Keep away from direct light, which fades the grain over time.
- If it gets damp, let it dry in open air, far from any heat source.
- Store it closed to protect the leather interior.
- Patina is not a flaw. It is proof the board has been played.
Frequently asked
Worth knowing
What makes full grain leather different?
It is the finest layer of the hide, the one left uncorrected. It keeps its original grain, takes on the warmth of the hand and softens each year. The feel evolves, the colour deepens, and the piece gradually becomes yours.
Why an eight week lead time?
Because nothing sits in stock. Your board enters the workshop once you order: hide selection, cutting, assembly, hand stitching, edge finishing. Each stage needs its resting time. Once the piece is finished, it ships to you within five days, anywhere in the world.
Why do two sets in the same colour differ slightly?
Because no hide is identical to another. Variations in grain and depth of colour are the signature of natural, uncorrected leather. We do not smooth them away: they are what makes your piece unique.
Can I have my set personalised?
Yes. Initials can be applied in blind embossing or gold foil. Personalisation is chosen at the time of order, before the piece enters the workshop.
Is the Prestige suited to travel?
The Prestige is designed as an object for the home, a board you leave out. For travel, the Travel Edition and the Pocket are made to slip into a bag.
